Stroke Support Shop Raise Astonishing £10,000 for Sheffield Hospitals Charity In the UK, a stroke strikes every three and a half minutes, will take a life every 10 and half minutes and one in every three strokes are fatal. Sheffield Hospitals Charity have teamed up with the Stroke Support Shop within Sheffield to raise awareness around strokes, but also to help raise vital funds for Sheffield Hospitals Charity Stroke Appeal. Since 2019 The Stroke Support Shop has been raising money for Sheffield Hospitals Charity Stroke and in the last year, they have raised an astonishing £10,000. The money has not only been raised through the charity shop, but through amazing supporters like Ken Row who raised a fantastic £3,000 in December 2021 by running a one-man marathon arounds Hillsborough park. Tracey Newman-Hinchcliffe who runs The Stroke Shop has also run tombola and raffles at various events held by the shop supporters. Here is what she had to say about raising money for the charity: “Our aim as a charity shop is not only to raise vital funds but to also raise awareness around strokes. We are extremely pleased to be able to hand over £10,000 to benefit local stroke survivors and would like to thank the people of Sheffield for their continued support. We couldn't have done it without them.” Amanda Jones, Clinical Lead for the Stroke Pathway at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals said “I would like to say a huge thank you to Tracey and the volunteers in the stroke shop, who despite all the challenges with the pandemic, have worked tirelessly in raising funds for Sheffield Hospitals Charity and Sheffield Stroke service. The money will go towards further improving the stroke service, by helping to purchase specific additional equipment such as speech and language therapy aids, providing additional information and resources for the running of the stroke survivor and carers education, information and support groups, research project and specific specialist education for the stroke team, to further enhance stroke recovery. ” This year Tracey is planning to hold an event to celebrate 10 years of The Stroke Shop raising vital funds for charity and to raise awareness around strokes within the UK. Sheffield Hospitals Charity are so grateful for the support that Tracey and the team have given to the charity.
